Position Title: Board Member, Community Leadership Loddon Murray Incorporated (trading as LEAD Loddon Murray).

Position Details: Two year appointment

Location & Remuneration: This is a voluntary role with very limited reimbursement of expenses. As CLLM  is a regional association, events, meetings and activities will take place in various locations across the southern Loddon Mallee region.

Start Date: July 2018

What is LEAD Loddon Murray?

LEAD Loddon Murray is a not-for-profit incorporated association with tax concession charity status governed by a Board of Management comprising six LMCLP graduates and four independent community members – 10 Board Members in total. Employed and contracted staff, along with graduates, effectively deliver three main streams of activity designed to increase community leadership capacity across the Loddon Murray region:

We Develop Leaders: By partnering with individuals within the community to develop their leadership roles (includes the Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program)

We Create Capacity: By empowering our community and enhancing their skills and knowledge (includes our Graduate Program and Community Enterprise)

We Facilitate Conversations: By initiating conversations that count, as well as working on behalf of others to manage important discussions (includes our regional leadership network and advocacy role)

 

Since 1998 the Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program (LMCLP) has offered an affordable and accessible personal and professional development opportunity for community leaders from all walks of life to grow their skills, knowledge, confidence and networks to make a difference within their own communities and within the broader region and industries they are passionate about.

Through our Graduate Program, a valuable regional network of over 445 LMCLP graduates is supported in their volunteer work at both a grass roots level, and at a regional, state, national and industry level. We also respond to community needs by matching graduates with not-for-profit projects requiring specialised assistance, and by initiating and supporting a diverse range of projects to meet community needs and undertaking a range of targeted projects and events to build community leadership capacity.

Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members

The Board of Management provides the purpose, leadership direction, and strategy for the organisation. In addition to this, they ensure the organisation’s finances are sound and that our operations are legal. As a Board Member you will contribute to the governance and leadership of LEAD Loddon Murray and will actively promote our interests actively in the broader community in accordance with our Governance and Code of Conduct Policy, Strategic Plan, and Business Plan (copies of these documents are contained on our website under the publications tab). The main responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for LEAD Loddon Murray defining and developing robust policies to support the strategic direction, ensuring full compliance with legislative requirements, monitoring the effectiveness of our programs and activities, and providing accountability mechanisms. Community Board Members are appointed for a period of two years. Meetings take place once every six weeks (Board Members are expected to attend all of these meetings where possible). It is also desirable that Board Members attend key events including the Launch, AGM, and Graduation Evenings where possible and positively advocate for the program at all times.

 

Expectations of Board Members

  • Actively participate in Board meetings and events, including the AGM;
  • Undertake a time commitment of eight hours per month (on average) – includes Board preparation, Board meetings, sub-committee and other meetings time. A copy of our 2018 Board Program can be found on the next page;
  • High level of commitment to the work of LEAD Loddon Murray, and an understanding of the organisation and our key focus areas;
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: strategy, policy, programs, communications, information technology, legal, business acumen, finance and/or personnel; and
  • A willingness to invest in developing his/her own personal and professional development.
